  • Displacement and higher res probs

I have a scene with some Vray Displacement, which renders just fine at a draft resolution. However, when I increase the resolution it hesitates at the 'Embree Static Accelerator...' stage, then crashes.

What do I need to do, other than reduce the resolution, to avoid this happening? Or, are there any workarounds?

    Thank you

    Vray 3.6

Make edge length bigger, ideally proportionally to the render size increase.
As it's expressed in pixels, by default, with a higher resolution the same geo would keep the visual detail density by creating more geometry.
If it's not desired, you can change the unit type to world, and then express edge length as system units, which will then be render size invariant.

I always use scene units but I'm not very "optimized" minded when it comes to stills.

I was thinking to more or less avoid this happening (to fiddle with displacement settings when changing resolutions), is it maybe an idea to express the edge length in % of the resolution width?

It'd surely make mathematical sense, but the thing would be the units would have to be tiny, these days.
A pixel for a fullHD render would mean typing 0.5 as percentage (assuming we always take the longest frame edge as representative, i.e. 1920).
I think it's a good idea, though, with some proper UI wording and adjustment, it could be a definite plus.

Yeah I though about that, it doesn't need to be a percentage but could be some kind of fraction that makes more or less sense.
