Specular artifacts from DOF

I have some heavy depth of field for the this macro shot but the specular highlights from the red material that has been scattered throughout the scene is showing up as annoying dot aftifacts. I don't want to have to change the materials. and i can't seem to get rid of with more subdivs and lower noise threshhold. not even the denoiser works.

Any ideas?

Set Min AA to 4 and Max AA to 512 and let it render. It will take massive amounts of time, but the image will clear up.

glossiness 1.0 on the red material?
if so - lower it a bit. 0.98?
