Color Mapping

I´m using Exponetial Color Mapping to try getting better results, but it has been really dificult to get there.
If I use higher values, I almost get it, besides the fact that dark areas stay almost black.
Could someone explain how it works.

hmmm...can you post an image of what your talking about and maybe an image of your settings? alot of times you have to mess with it until you get something that looks nice.
