  • Render Element overrides with Render Setup

Was wondering if it might be possible to enable auto-overrides on the Vray Render Element UI so overrides automatically get made in the newer Render Setup system? There are a lot of benefits to using Render Setup with complex scenes and this has been one pain point having to manually make overrides on render elements. It's nice when using Legacy render layers to be able to select a bunch of render elements and just mark them Y/N and have the overrides get made automatically.

Hi and apologies for the delayed answer.
We've discussed this internally and we've added it to our roadmap. We'll probably be able to get to it a bit later this year, I hope that this is acceptable.

      Hi there,

This request has been resolved and it's part of today's stable builds that you can find here https://nightlies.chaos.com/#/corwin...e_5.2/20220315
It will also be included in our next official release.
Please test and let us know if all works as expected.

Works perfectly thank you so much! I think this was the last main issue we had using Render Setup now. We have found render setup to be super powerful for the type of work we do, especially when getting into working with a ton of assets. This is excellent.

So one issue I came across is the AOV overrides aren't generated in RS for AOVs that are already created when updating the Y/N option in the Render Element UI. So for render elements we have already created and are embedded in reference assets using "Used Referenced" checkbox.
Same goes for other Render Elements already in the scene. If I want to enable them in another new render layer the overrides don't automatically get made when using the Render Element UI.

I think it's probably best to just have the render element UI make overrides whenever Y is checked for it's specific layer? Having the RS override added only on creation still means quite a bit of manual overrides need to be made for a scene especially when using assets with a lot of built in render elements.

One good workaround I found was to make a collection just for Vray Render Elements and then bringing in the actual render element nodes, and adding my enable override onto the single collection.

                Hi there,

I can't seem to reproduce this issue on our end. Could you please be more specific with the steps to reproduce or perhaps can you send over a scene or video demonstrating it? Thank you in advance!

Ah sorry so testing this again it seems to work as expected for me. Could have just been an issue with my scene or maybe I was testing with previous version by mistake or something. Works as expected for me in a fresh scene with new RS layers.
