with vray advanced you would want to get the materials made by egz on www.vray.info also there are some libraries on www.evermotion.com however i like anyone else would advise you to make your own materials for now so that you get practice with the materials and know them inside and out

Just dont use raytrace. Anyway, its not like figuring this out would be hard. You can practacly take a lot of standard materials, convert them, then adjust to give them the desired effect.
Metals are probably the simplest thing ever, you put a semi-black/blue color in diffuse, then give it some reflectivity, if its colored you make the reflective slot a color, and then you set the glossy, no big.
The words are right there infront of you. if its water, it'll be reflective, with a bump, and refrctive with some level of fog inside.
And realy a "library" almost never does you any good with materials unless its the most used things you can think of so the library isnt too big, or something very special, like a CD mat.

Yes indeed you can do most materials with only vraymtl in less than 5 seconds. Once you know all the parameters, you will never want to go back for preset materials like water and metal, which only decreases the level of control you have over it.

so why can't i even get one VrayMtl to show up???
Thats is more options than I am getting with my copy of VrayFree. I can't seem to figure out why the VrayMtl is not showing up as an option in the materials editor? I do have the default renderer as Vray Free 1.09
