If BOXX is the industry gold standard, why do they only have Intel processors?

BOXX is not industry gold standard, not in quality and not in performance, you pay for the support and the “brand” but you can find the same identical components in cheaper machines. Intel CPU are perfectly fine for laptop, it’s only on desktop that AMD have a significant advantage

So, AMD isn't the must-have on a laptop? Nobody is even recommending Intel

I read a few reviews and it seems that performance between the two is close enough now that it’s not really that big of a deal.

About what I can find, that is in stock and available to ship. I get 13% off for having a business account, so it should be around $4000.

This is a hail-mary here. I won't have access to my workstation for a month, if not more. I have projects lined up like planes waiting to land at the busiest airport.

Done! Thank you all for your advice. I have had my DELL workstation for five years, and it has been rock solid. You guys helped me through that purchase too. The warranty was excellent, and they actually replaced the motherboard after my warranty was up. My desktop is five years old, but it was already a couple of years old when I purchased it. It is fantastic that it is still a viable solution for my work, so much so, it beats most other desktops I see today. Again, thank you all who have given me your advice.

I'll have to start thinking about limitations, which I haven't had to do with my desktop. So give and take, I suppose. I am moving from upper MN to San Diego, so I see a lot of work from the beach . We have sold our house and buying a 31' motorhome, so wish me luck. I might also have to be selective in the work I take. My plan is less work and more recreation.

I have a Dell XPS 17" w/ 64gb ram, GeForce RTX 3060 card and 4tb ssd. I love it. It's the size of a 15", doesn't weigh much and looks as good as any Mac. It's just gorgeous.

Ask them for a discount. 100% of the time I asked for a better deal I got one from Dell.

Yes, I got a 10% discount. I am looking forward to this. I upgraded to the Cherry MX keyboard. This one is supposed to be heavy, but I don't think I'll mind. I have read and watched some great reviews. Almost nothing bad to be said about it. It is supposed to be the best laptop money can buy. The Ryzen 9 and Intel i9 are supposed to be pretty equal. However, I will have to say, the Ryzen might be better for rendering. Everything else, it seems the i9 is superior. I couldn't get a 17" Ryzen, and the RAM was only 32Gb. I'll let you'll know how it goes.

I have been up and running for a week, and all is good. I am seeing really good render times and will run a benchmark later today. On my workstation, I would let a render go for an hour, both interior and exterior, and that was always enough. On my new laptop, I am doing the same. Going from a 43" monitor to a 17" monitor took some getting used to, but all is good.

                            Hi Bobby-
I came across your laptop thread yesterday while researching a similar build I'd like to pull the trigger on soon. Since it's been almost a year now, I'm wondering how you're liking your laptop - any overheating or throttling issues? Windows 11 causing any (speed or other) issue with Max/Vray (I thought I read a while back folks were seeing a slow down in render times under Windows 11?)
                            I'm looking at Dell's m17 r5, AMD Ryzen 9 9600HX / RTX 3080Ti / 64GB DDR5 / 4TB M2 SSD.
                            cheers!

I have no issues, except maybe Windows 11 being extra cautious with file/folder privileges. I think your choice is a good one. I went with Intel because, from what I read, intel beats on all benchmarks except for rendering, which is marginal. I have had no overheating issues; it has been rock solid.
