Posting here because I'm a lowly Lightwave user and don't have vray. I was checking out your images, and I suppose this applies to livening up images in general, particularly when using exponential.
(Photoshop)
1. Duplicate base image
2. Guassian blur 4.0 - 5.0
4. Open levels for this blurred image and set the dark slider thingo to 60 (so it will be 60, 1.0, 255).
5. Set this layer to screen mode and opacity to about 55%
6. Apply levels adjustment layer and tweak or simply auto it, or if you don't have photoshop CS or above, flatten and apply auto-levels.
Additionally, you can apply an unsharp mask of about 50%, 1.0 pixel to the base layer (or whole image if you've flattened).
