  • vraycolor map why and when?

    hi guys,

im confused about this, (noob question) should i use vraycolor map or just the diffuse color of the shader to choose a color?

i dont understand why i should use a vray color map, is it more accurate?.

I watched a tutorial and the guy was using the vraycolor as input but he did not explain why.

    hope someone can help me

Its helpful in linear workflows when you need to match an rgb color from photoshop
Since max and vray is setup with gamma correction by default, simply entering a rgb value you picked from photoshop into the diffuse color wont match. In such cases you use vraycolor and add the color to that instead and enter the appropriate gamma value.

Vraycolor can also be helpful in other situations where you have multiple materials for example, and you want them to have the same reflection value. In that case you can use a vraycolor also, and then instance that map to the other materials then if it needs adjusting, you only adjust one map instead of ALL the materials individually.

There are of course multiple other uses for it also.
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

Yeah that's how we use it as well. Match the colour on screen to the reference in the colour picker. And then tune the gamma value till it matches the original in the render.
