  • new benchmark on general...

hey guys i have one doubt...

dual optron beats xeon on becnhmark, but optrons r dualcore processor , existing xeons r not..

see this, dual core xeons will only ship from 2006..

    http://www.intel.com/business/bss/products/server/dual-core.htm?ppc_cid=ggl|dualcor_b2b|k3110|s

for me i think u guys need to do one more benchmark at that time and see which dualcore Rules ....

only the newest opterons are dual core, the ones that have been out for a year or so are not dual core.

You're comparing currently available chips to ones that will be out in a year.... thats pointless. By then AMD will have released faster ones as well, and it assumes Intel even meets that deadline.

No, its comparing as many chips currently on the market so people can determine what's the best value for performance/price.

Currently AMD dual cores seem to be that. In the past, it was Intels with Hyperthreading. Should we just throw out those results because AMD didn't have Hyperthreading? No.

If an AMD dual core is not noticeably faster than a single Intel, that is something we should find out. So just because not-to-market chips aren't available yet, doesn't make the benchmarks invalid. We aren't ArsTechntorica or Toms Hardware, we're Vray users and care about the best value for our money when producing Vray renders. Whether one dual core or another is better right now doesn't matter to us, because we can only get our hands on one. I'm sure when the Intel dual-cores make it to market, we'll see new benchmarks incorporating them. But by then there will also be faster AMDs, newer versions of Vray, and different benchmarking scenes.

The benchmarks you saw were not run by the Vray developers, just ordinary Vray users trying to get some meaningful information on whats currently on the market.

toms hardware? people still listen to those tests? as far as i knew toms hardware was a site that recieved sponcership from computer parts manufacturers. therefor how are you going to trust that. i trust what im seeing here on the forum. users who are doing tests with either purchased or user built systems to give real user results.

Toms Hardware is well know for taking money behind the back in a brown paper bag to affect the out come of certain products to make them look a lot better. There was a big scandal type thing, and alot of the workers actually quit.
Personally I wouldnt bother with Toms Hardware the place is way to dodgy IMO
