  • Adaptive bucket splitting

    Hi,
I saw that the update description of vray5.2.23 mentioned "adaptive bucket splitting".
Is this update only applicable to brute force computing?
Does the rradiance map support the same?

    Advice would be grateful.
    Thank you

Hi it will work with Irradiance map but keep in mind that the recommended workflow is using brute force and light cache for GI. It has many advantages especially if you combine it with the V-Ray Denoiser and V-Ray Denoiser Tool.

Yes, brute force computing has many advantages, but it requires more rendering time .
in the current vray6.04 version, does the Irradiance map and light cache for GI also support "adaptive bucket splitting"?,
at least I have no effect in the test.

Hi you are correct. I got a bit confused here. If we have a last bucket situation indeed with brute force the bucket is split further and all cores get involved while with irradiance map the last bucket(s) are not split and are calculated only by one(a few) cores.

Indeed, no Adaptive splitting with the IRMap.
On the subject, the IRMap is a form of smoothed GI.
You will want to upgrade to the more modern form of smoothing, that is using BF/LC, with a slightly higher noise threshold, and then progress to denoise the result, or if doing post, the relevant render elements.
Rendertime with the conditions above isn't slower for a comparable amount of noise in the final image than with IRMap, but it also works the first time, every time, and requires one dropdown toggle to work for animation (with anything animated.).
