i've been meaning to ask... since i started with vray 5.x, whenver i load up 3ds max, click in a viewport (such as TOP) then rotate the view, i get a white background. now my max is setup to launch a template with a vray sun/sky, a box sphere and teapot on a plane. just the way i set it up. anyway, i alwasy get this white background. when i hit ALT+B it shows synchronize with display mode. i'd rather have solid color.

is this something in vray or max? does the sun/sky have something to do with it? it seems like the white is somehow an overexposed background?

    thanks

You're seeing the Sun/Sky system, which is pretty strong without Exposure control (also it is previewed correctly with a Perspective viewport, rather than an Orthographic). If you prefer a solid/gradient color for the background, simply choose so in the Viewport Configuration.
