  • chrome toons?

    Hey,

I was wondering if anyone had any idea on how to create a "chrome line-art" material. I thought i could render a chrome pass and then render a toon pass and use the toon pass as a mask...but it's not workingout so well. I have an example that i have to match, and unfortunaley i can't post it here...bummer. essentially what i need to do is figure our some way to render "chrome" edges...

any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated

    thanks

hm. you could create splines along the edges and work with renderable splines. But if it´s a character that is deforming it would be too much hazzle. another idea would be creating a bump on the edges only (via a falloff material). or alternatively rendering a toon version (white lines on black background) and do the whole chrome thing in post.

    Greetings,
    Thorsten

tried the post thing...didn't work. I've moved on to trying a camera projection. Rendering a black and white toon image, and then using that as a mask for the projection...

      ...here's to hoping...

just tried something that worked sort of. not perfect but with some tweakin it might turn out sufficient.

I rendered out the original image with VRayToon. Then i used that image to displace a plane with the size of the image and viewed from an aligned cam. As amterial i used a simple chrome material. And in the displacement i set a whaterlevel of 0 so only the actually displaced parts are visible.

Dunno if it helps anything...but sure was fun to try :P
