  • recomended configuration hardware for Vray?

im about to choise one of these:

    [quote]at microconcept:
    --
    asus a8n sli (socket 939) 141€
    alton64+ 3200 socket 939 206€
    NX-6600 GT 256Mo sparkle
    2 giga =ram 2 giga pc 3200 4*49€: 196€

    //////////
    at pointmicro:
    --
    GigaByte GA-K8NXP-9 nForce 4 Ultra (PCIe) 189 €
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Box 205 €
    Leadtek A6600GT TDH (GeForce 6600 GT, 256 Mo DDR3)
    2 giga =DDR 512 Mo 400 MHz 4*43 €= 172€

i've already undetstood, 256mo video card should be better

i'm wondering about how it is interesting to buy a expensiver motherboard that can take 2 processors, and buy the second processor later

is it Vray good hardware configurations?

ps: my budget is restrictive, has you have already understood..

Go for a dual machine and buy two processors that are cheap at the moment. No need to buy the newest and fastest proc out there. Check the price for a dual 2.8GHz, shouldn't be that expensive anymore. (if they still sell it...)

You can get a dual core 3800 and MB for the same price as the 1x xeon 2.8 and MB and already have the second cpu+.

newest and fastest = the best value

Hey rerender, dual core is that 2cpu's attached together? So you can have a MB with 2 dual core processors so you have a total of 4cpu's in one machine?

There are two classes (well three i guess), the atholon/p4's only can be a single proc equaling a traditional dual cpu setup. The opterons and Xeons (xeons won't be available for a few months) Either come as DP's (2x dual core) or MP's (4+ Dual cores) but get very pricey.

the xeons should be interesting, 2x dual core + HT, mmm 8 threads

guys i think his budget is a bit more restrictive than that.

the two pc's you mentioned a rather much the same really.

if you can get a 6800gt instead of 6600, then you can modify the card into being a quatro fx4000 which is a proper video card for max work

that will get you some really good value, otherwise i would look into which of those motherboard is overclockable, and put in some decent cooling and overclock the cpu somewhat!

I would also buy only 1 gig of ram to start with and get as fast a processor as i can, as long as your prepared to buy a second stick of ram later on, you'll end up with a faster pc in 3 months this way.

here is the thread about modifiying a 6800gt to fx : http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpB...ic.php?t=12433

I have not buy it yet

i wonder if it is better 1*Dual-Core Atlon64X2 or for equal price, a bi processor mother board and 2*Atlon 64

my vendor say a dual core Atlon64X2 4400+ is the best choice, but im not sure its the best rapport render time/price..(big wonder..
dualcore4400 is not 2 4400 processor at all, but more 2*2400mhz..(im no specialist

but its 609€ , looks like i can have for the same price two processors like Altlon64 3500+ socket 939 (2*259€) with is cheaper then the dual core even if the motherboard will be more price

buy the way any dual processor motherboard recommended?
i see some msi, asus, gigabites, Tyan.. dunno really

is opteron really usefull, if i want the best quality/price?

and about the graphic card , is realy 256mb recomended if i use 2 monitors, 1280*1024 or more, because for now, the one on my old computer looks like to be really enought, and has 2 years lol (geforce4-ti4200-128mo)

dont forget dual processor mobos are hella expensive, and will use more power then a dual core setup

i would get a single socket board because you have more choice, and you can overclock them more easily.

also dont buy tyan i have had 4 tyan tigers fail on me!
i have never had gigabyte fail.

If you want a fast rendering machine for cheap then the x2's are you best bet. Dont get a single core cpu as no matter how much you overclock you wont be able to match the rendering speed of one athlon x2.

I suggest you get either a x2 3800 or x2 4400 and a basic Asus Nforce4 socket 939 motherboard. and 2gbs of ram if you can afford it.

That would offer you the best price/performance ratio.

Also you cannot get a dual mothebroard for athlon64 cpu's only opterons.

The X2 is your best option.

                          thanks for info
                          i have a 1500€ budjet

                          3options:

                          dual core atlon:
                          alton64X2 4400

dual processor on maybe GigaBites card card
                          2*processor OPTERON 244 1.8G FSB800 SOCKET 940 DUAL witch is almost cheap now:229.00 €

or 2* processor pentium like 3200

                          all for same price

a took a look at bench, alton64X2 4400 is just 30% fastest then a normal pentium 4400 on thing like rar a file ect
this is not at all 2*amd4000, but 2 processors 2400mhz

i'll make mor research and see what would give me the most power for render time with my 1500€ budjets

                          thanks to all who replyed

The athlon x2 4400 will beat everything else that you have listed there.

Also the reason that the x2 is no faster in the rar file extraction is because extracting rar files only uses one core (cpu) it doesnt take full advantage of the 2nd core. That would be the same with any fo the dual core/cpu system.

It is much much faster in render. Have a look at the 2 benchmark threads in the general section.
You would be crazy not to get the x2 4400.

Also the athlon x2 4400 runs at 2.2ghz anyway, the athlons are faster per mhz than the pentiums. So an athlon 2.2ghz is as fast as a pentium 3.2-3.4 ghz anyway.
The AMD4000 runs at 2.4ghz as well.

Seriously the X2 is the fastest at rendering out of those 3 options that you posted!!!!!
