  • Radial mapping in 3dsmax/Vray similar to VRED

Apart from the usual "use photoshop" method of converting a texture into a radial type texture is there any procedural way, similar to how VRED can implement radial mapping, to do this?

Docs on radial mapping for VRED: https://help.autodesk.com/view/VREDP...hed_Metal_html

It seems odd that there is no way to do this other than using a 3rd party tool to hack it.
    Regards

Hi, thanks for posting. We do not have a readily available solution to this. There could be an OSL that can do this somewhere on the web or you could write one.

My best guess for a workaround is this:
    - I am using a regular rectangular texture with parallel lines like this one (but we could make a procedural one as well)

    - apply it on a plane, increase the geometry tessellation a lot and use the bend modifier to make this

    - you can now use render to texture or just use a flat lighting like a V-Ray Dome Light for instance and render in VFB|
