I noticed a few of you are having some problems with your new motherboards, and while I don't see any directly related to the problem I had, I'll note it down here anyway. I set myself up with an Asus A8N-SLI Premium, X2 3800, 2gig ram. I had it all running fine but was finding my VNC windows were crapping out after 5-30seconds, and I was getting alot of corrupt downloads. After much googling, I did 2 things to resolve this:
-Downloaded last revision of nforce drivers (6.53 as opposed to the latest 6.66) on another computer so they weren't corrupt, extracted them, and installed just the ethernet driver.
-Uninstalled nvidia NAM (network access manager)
No more problems I was also having general stability problems, so i went through a list of 3 bits of hardware in device manager that Windows hadn't picked up, and left only 1 that I didn't know what it was, and I disabled that. No more instability.
Hope this helps
