  • Compositing software?

Just wondering what compositing software people use these days. I've always stuck with Photoshop purely because I know it, am comfortable with it, and struggle for time to switch over to anything else.

After upgrading to Photoshop 2024 I'm finding that opening an EXR is now hit and miss. It might open a couple, then another one will just crash the program, seemingly completely at random and sometimes with the same file. So frustrating to be constantly saving and having to reopen large psb files. I can't find another plugin that would do the job and as I'm on a Mac I can't use the EXR-IO one so it made me wonder if it's time to switch if there's a better option.

Take a look into Davinci Resolve. I've only dipped in briefly, but, plan on putting some time into it. Nuke is $$$ and more geared towards other disciplines, but great to know if you're looking to open some compositing doors in future.

I think a lot of people just use the VFB to composite images. I haven't yet, but it looks like it does everything you need and does it well.
