  • Material Help

    Ok, Here's the deal.

    I'm trying to use the Reflective VrayMap in a blend material, so the light and dark values of what it reflects determines which material shows up more in the blend. I could have sworn this worked before. Am I just crazy or am I missing something?

    Pretty much I have 1 white and 1 black material in each slot, and then the vraymap in the mask slot.

    The resulting effect is actualy kind of neat to see, but its still not what I'm going for. It seems to make a Semi Transparent material.

    Hmmm..... that sentence is a a trigger phrase for a common problem...

    Check to make sure your enviroment map isn't set to "screen" mapping.[/code]

      There is no environment map actualy.

      Environment = Grey
      No sun.
      GI calc is Irradiance and QMC on low.
      The object is a box sitting ontop of a plane. The box has the material.

      Its sort of like, its inverted, and youre seeing an inversion of the GI?

      Now, I believe this works in mental ray *using a reflective material as a mask* but it doesnt seem to want to work in Vray. This is actualy something I'm trying to apply to a glass material to make it more realistic.

      When you view glass from a lit side, you see less through it than you would if you were on a darker side. However if its reflecting something dark you can see through it better. So, Essentialy the B/W reflective values would determine how easy it is to see through the glass. If the reflection is dark, then you can see through it, if its light, you cant.
