  • When is the Maya version coming out?

    We're all dying here to get Vray for Maya...when is it coming out??!? I've been waiting and watching since last year's siggraph, when I was told it would be November 2004. That month came and went, but no Maya version.

    Please release it soon! I know a lot of people who are just begging to use it. You guys could be making so much from sales!

    not if they released a buggy version that had alot of issues. not a good way to endear yourself to a whole new category of users.

      man. if i had a nickle for everytime this question comes up in a 1 month period. and every single time its a new topic. maybe a maya version topic should be made sticky so people dont create new topics about it

        isn´t better to post an official reply to answer this questions? cause there´s very much time ago without news about it.

          If so many people are asking this question, then maybe they should put more effort into letting people know the status of their software. I come to their site all the time to see how things are going, and there's never any news of progress or release dates, or if they're even working on it.

          I'm sorry to create duplicate posts, but I want to know if things are moving anymore. I was told the version would be out last November, and I haven't heard anything since. An official post would be really nice.

            I agree, but Chaos has been very reluctant to make official posts regarding timelines as they have been burned quite badly when past substantial deadlines were overshot significantly. That, and the Chaos products are quite a bit more fluid than most, which means that "stable, final" releases take much longer, but has the benefit of them adopting new technologies at a faster pace.

              Of course they should get everything to work great for the final release, but they don't have to keep us in the dark about it. They don't have to give a final release date; I'd be happy with a little crumb of news here and there that things are actually happening.

              I mean, the news on the site says they went to siggraph to show off new things, but 2 months later there's still nothing new to see.

                must i install linux in order to use VRAY with MAYA ?

                must i install linux in order to use VRAY with MAYA (real questino) ?

                concerning on this thread : http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpB...highlight=maya

                i think that there might be an earlier release of VRAY for Linux than for Windows / Windows Server Edition / 64bit windows . Just wondering , if that might be true - can it be that Linux also has better Memory- and Framebuffer-Management ?

                i guess the long part of making stables is all the command-line-parameters, to get them to work properly .

                -----------------------
                LOL - where is the poetry on that ? i can just say , that it takes me soo long to learn maya so i got the time to wait ...

                  no i doubt youll have to install linux JUST to use vray for maya. Since maya runs fine on wintel boxes, Im sure youll be able to stay that way.

                    @percydaman:
                    thanx for your kind answer !

                    hmmm , that would be fine .

                    although the linux-version would be best for network rendering - because of the licensing of Windows 2003 Server-Edition . (my personal opinion)

                    but it is good to know , maybe UNTIL "vray 4 maya" (aka standalone +exporter) will come out i will have even more RAM in my computer , and then i will finally jump into UNIX-BASED LINUX-VERSION of Maya , because it is supposed to be faster . or i would look forward to JUMP to HOUDINI - LOL.

                    ---->
                    i am happy to wait , maybe there will be more information about this topic - lets say , about christmas time ... .

                    just One Last Question :
                    will the .vrmesh-file-format be like COLLADAs XML or renderman RIB or mental Images .mi-file-format ? or will it more likely be a binary (non-ascii) file-format ?

                    -------------------------->

                    I hope what i write can be understand , because of my non-native-english.
