  • Need help understanding HDRI

We're currently using Max7 and a recently purchased Vray 1.47.03. I'm posting this message here because I have not yet register to use the general posting site.

As a newbie, I don't understand the concept and use of HDRI. I downloaded a tutorial, used the material in a scene I had been previously practicising with and found that my rendering time became three time as long long. Could someone give an example of when and why HDRI would be used. The tutorial I looked at invloved a high glossy surface on an automobile. I wanted to achieve the similar look on a kitchen counter top (high polished marble) and shinny aluminum sink. Perhaps using HDRI for that purpose was not what it's intended for, but not having the experiance, that's the approach I took.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    welcome to the forum!
Now, hdri can be used for lighting or reflections or a combo of the 2.

Is the marble top in an interior kitchen scene? or is it just an object on its own?

      Chris,

The table to is part of an interior scene that I've been working to build my skills with Max and Vray. I can't seem to be able to attach an image of the interior scene. As soon as I work out that issue, I'll paste it here.
