  • 3ds max render node install?

Hello. I'm installing 3ds max on a PC that will only be a render node for distributed rendering. No UI. No max license on this machine.
It is 3ds max 2022 perpetual. I ran the installer and installed all components but saw no option for backburner. At the end of the install it says installation complete and then has a start button which I presume will launch the program into a trial. I did not click start. I closed the window. Is there anything else I need to do on this machine, besides install the V-ray render node?

There's no backburner option and usually you don't need to run the application. If you install Backburner on the same PC (before or after installing Max, it doesn't matter), once you run Backburner server, it'll add this PC to the queue (if the Max version used for the job is installed on the PC).

If you have anything that wouldn't load with the job (for example scripted plugins, MCG plugins, additional plugins) you'll need to copy these over from your workstation max and adjust paths to include whatever is needed. If you're unsure, just try rendering, if something's missing you'll probably be able to track it down using the logs.

Edit: just to make sure - no serial number is needed for network rendering. Even if you run the trial and it expires, network rendering will still work.

Thank you much. At one point I had 3ds max 2020 distributed render working across 4 PCs. Now I finally got a better PC, and 2022. So the new plan is to get distributed render in 3ds max 2022 to work across my new best PC and 2 of the others. Plus I moved locations so the internet is different too.
Wasn't sure where to start so your post helped. Thank you
