thanks. however it seems to me that no one wants to read a word of what i was asking beyond the fact that its a waterfall im working on. The water in my waterfall doesnt fall straight down. there is a rock face that the water splashes down.

look about the rocks u may use forces that the particles can react to ...

Hm, the way I see it. Take your watterfall. Make it solid white, then use black particles witha massive motionblurr added to them. bounce drop the partciles down the side of the waterfal and record it from a flat view. Use a video editor to loop the animation and possibly invert it and blurr it more, modle a plane that follows the curves of your waterfall *boolean it out of a copy of the watterfall face or something* then place the recorded sequence on it as the bump map for a water material. If i'm correct it should give you a nice fake waterfall without having to render the particles durring the overall animation.

I may try that when I get home.

well. im estimating this scene will come to roughly 2 or 3 million polys, i dont want to go adding particles and motion blur to it juuust yet. PS just might be enough to do it

The entire waterfall itself is 2-3 million polys?

                "im estimating this scene"

The waterfall is a small part of the scene so no, its not a crazy highpoly water fall
