3ds max 8 hair effects problem

Hi everyone, im using vray free and 3ds max 8. I have a character i have put hair on and he renders fine, but when i take him in an interior scene i keep getting an error "UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Applying Render Effects"
I have searched everywhere and it seems noone has this problem. The scene will render fine untill it gets to the hair, what is happening here?, this is extremely frustrating

Ive actualy had Vray rendering the Hair/Fur, The only thing you cant get it to do is GI for the hair, nore can I seem to figure out how to light an entire field without the shadows scattering and dissapearing *its the same for scanline too, so its not a vray issue* On a small scale it casts the shadows and merges the hair fine in the few tests Ive done with it. If they allowed for some sort of Vray extension - ala OrnatrixVrayHiar Extension, then the geometry thing wouldnt be too bad if you could render unlimited ammounts. But the Dynamic setting for Vray doesnt seem to compensate for the Hair/Fur plugin for some reason. With ornatrix I was able to generate just as much hair in about the same way, and still render it without crashing.

Thanks very much for the replys guys. I have tried converting it to geometry but it doesnt seem to render the hair. The strange thing is sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt, and its usually the first render that does. I imported it into the scene and it actually rendered the hair, i try from another angle and it doesnt. I cannot find a proper reason as to why this is happening. When global illumnination is turned on i make sure i reset the irradiance map each time and everything. I'm sure you can imagine this frustration, is there a fix for this anyone has found?,

3ds max 8 and vray free, i also get the problem with vray trial. Another error i get is
"UNHANDELED EXCEPTION: broadcasting NOTIFY_PRE_RENDERFRAME", although this is more rare than the
"UNHANDELED EXCEPTION: Applying render effects"

Do you have Vray as the renderer for the interior sceen?
