Is there a standalone version that allows scene assembling with models from another application?
    Thanks.

There is a standalone, and it is included with the maya beta. It was used for the blender exporter if i am not mistaken.

So, I can move objects around with this standalone version, lights etc?

Is this the product that is named just "VRay"?

        Sorry, i misunderstood your question.

There is no standalone GUI available. The standalone version is still just a renderer that takes custom scene files as input. So you still need a 3d package and a matching exporter.

          I see a product called VrayforC4D.

My main question is whether, in your opinion, Vray for C4D is better at handling high poly scenes than C4D's advanced renderer. If so, is this true in general for all 3D apps for which there is a Vray plugin or exporter?

Sorry, I'm a little unclear about Vray, and the Chaos site explains features at a level I'm not at yet.

I cant tell to be honest. As i've never really used C4Ds renderer. VRay is generally VERY good at Highpoly scenes. If i am not mistaken there is currently the Max Version, C4D, Rhino, Maya and XSI in beta as well as a blender exporter that uses the maya standalone version if i am not mistaken...did i miss any ??

I found a good review for VrayforC4d at:
              http://www.c4dcafe.com/reviews/vray/

That you say Vray is very good at hi-poly scenes is good news. I wonder if Vray would kick for eon Vue Xstream when used inside C4D.
