  • an idea for the Wishlist

    hi all,
i wondered if other vray users will agree with that request, but i think it could be a good improvement to have an option to disable displacement for GI calculation pass (especially Light cache and IRmap) in irradiance map and light cache rollout, displacement slowdown light cache that needs ages to start to calculate, and it's almost always better to disable displacement in global switches, calculate GI and save it, turn on displacement and reload IRmap and light cache to render final image, especially at high resolutions. It would be nice to send something to render without doing this manually...

    what do you think ?

I've never tried that, but if it works...sounds like a great idea.

Yes, it has been requested before and it's on the "to do" list.

      Best regards,
      Vlado

I've started doing this now - although I find if i turn displacement off for LC and IR I sometimes get errors. Turning it off for LC, then loading that lc file to do the IR with displacement turned on works really well.

yes i have experienced the same workflow with success, especially for high resolution rendering with displaced grass, grass look less flat and can catch some occlusion details with the IRmap and there is no "rendering time" issues related to the displacement.
