  • HDRI Lighting Question - Making Lights from HDRIs in VRAY?

A little background: I am a studio based photographer that has been using 3-d apps and shooting light probes on set for quite some time now but I wouldn't consider myself too advanced.

The question: So I have photographed multiple studio light sources, and modifiers (softboxes, reflectors, etc.), as HDR files. Most rendering packages allow you to only set HDRIs in some form of an environment slot / material. Is there a way in VRAY that would allow me to "texture" planes with these HDRIs so I could easily move the lights/planes around and adjust output? ...much like I would in a real world studio? This peaked my interest http://www.hdrlightstudio.com but still not quite as flexible as me bringing in my own "lights" and I could also get pretty close to this using Photoshop.

As far as I've seen most packages allow for some sort of self-illuminated textured object but none of them take HDRIs for textures as far as I know. Is there a way this could be done in VRAY?

    Thanks in advance,

Yes. Rectangular VrayLights can be mapped with an HDRI via the texture slot... http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150SP1/light_params.htm
    www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.
