  • Hemispherical textures and

How do you apply these hemispherical textures into Vray for Maya's environment slot? I played around with the UV mapping settings and it doesn't fit right and there's no option for "equirectangula", "hemispherical" etc.

    Thanks.

Apply a VRayPlaceEnvTex projection node to the texture and choose the "spherical" mapping type.

Hi Vlado, I have tried this but it still does not look correct. Please see the attached image. It is in "Spherical" mode but it is pinched. I'm not sure what to do...

      Thank you.

        Hi,
My question : it is normal that the VRayPlaceEnvTex have just 2 rotations (Horizontal and vertical), but not 3 rotations (X, Y and Z, like the env_sphere) ?

I can't get a nice placement with this node :/.

            hey man,

u want to use a "180 degree" image into a "360 degree" placement.
            when i understand u right?

a way is to mirror the skypan in photoshop or fusion or so.
then u have a double height image with smooth horizon and u get a 360degree image!
            this works for me.

            cheers

thanks for the reply, these are 360* images "horizontally" but you're right I don't think they truly are 360* images.

Do you mean you double the images height in photoshop and it should appear correctly in Maya/Vray/mental ray etc?

                u´re right man.
these are only horizontal 360*, vertical 180* - a dome format.
to make 360x360* make a black empty pic in double hight and paste in the panorama twice and mirror the lower one vertical.

u see that I made an overlap for a smoothe horizon, and the black area at buttom must beleave because of "perfekt" double size in hight is nessesary...

                hope this helps..

grrr...i see that i dont have rights for attachments..sorry

Hi thanks Kompozer I have got it working now.

However is it possible, Vray devs, to have this visible in the viewport somehow? Like the IBL node in mental ray? It will make placing these skies much easier than render, tweak, render, tweak etc...

                  Thanks!
