  • Creating a depth shader

    Hi,

I sometimes like to use depth shaders in my npr renderings as materials. In mental ray and maya software I can use the below network (see attatched).

However this does not work in V-Ray, I'm wondering if anyone here knows a similar solution to creating such a network in Maya. I've tried many solutions but cannot get anything working like this.

    Thanks.

It would work pretty much in the same way, except that you can't use the camera near and far planes, but some specific values.

    Best regards,

I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

Thanks Vlado, this is the key I was missing.

The cameraNearClipPlane and cameraFarClipPlane attributes of the samplerInfo should be working in tomorrow's nightly build, 20100218. Their values will always be calculated as if "Auto render clip plane" is turned on for the camera. If you want to specify your own values, you can directly use the near/far clipping values from the camera.
