  • Backburner - Maya & Vray

I'd like to know if I can run the V-ray plug-in on one machine and use backburner to distribute an animation out for rendering to V-ray Render Slave. If so how do I go about doing this?

I've been searching the net for more information but all Backburner help pertains to 3dmax.

    Thank you

...yes Im very, very interesting about how to set up Backburner with Vray slaves for Maya...
For example I have Maya workstation with Maya and Vray...and I have 5 PC's free to rendering on them all frames from animation.
But of course I need to render one frame per computer step by step.

Somebody write on this forum that is no problem to set up Vray for Maya to do network rendering with muster, renderpal or other this kind control rendering software
for network rendering. I have no free time right now to test this, but if somebody know please write the simple formula (with BackBurner should be same method I think?).

You must install V-Ray on all machines that you wish to use for rendering (and you must point them to the correct license server); after that, rendering from backburner should not be any different from rendering with the other Maya render engines.

I have done this on my render machines. Also installed the license server on each. pointed them to my master machines IP. After sending jobs through from Maya's GUI to backburner, the plug-in starts but can't find licenses.

        Please help?

There is no need for this; you only need the license server on the machine where the dongle is plugged.

pointed them to my master machines IP.
How did you do that? Also, what is the error code when V-Ray says it cannot obtain a license?

Ok, so I uninstalled everything, then reinstalled just VRay (no license server), then was prompted at the end to enter a location of the license server. I entered the IP of the computer with the dongle then restarted.

Sent a render but still no luck.

"Could not obtain license (10061)" was the error code that came back.

Thanks very much for the reply. After fiddling for a few hrs, I realised that the port was not added to my firewall exceptions. After adding it, the render fired first time. Perhaps it would be a good idea to integrate this into the install process? To save further hassles.

                  Hi there...

I'm trying to render on a second machine and i cant get it to work. Usually i use a mac based drag and drop batch renderer called render Q. I have installed Vray on the second machine, and the vray slave seems to be running but i don't understand how i point it to my licensed (dongle) machine. I'm on osx. Any ideas?

                  thanks

We could try to write something up; which OS do you use?

                      Best regards,
