V-Ray 1.50SP1 licence server load error - Fedora13

Hello to all of you,

I just received the dongle and I'm trying to start the vrlserver, but it prints an error

/etc/init.d/vrlsvcctl start

Starting V-Ray license service.../etc/init.d/vrlsvcctl: line 21: 2356 Segmentation fault (core dumped) "$DAEMON" -daemon
failed

Followed so far the instructions from the pdf manual and in order to install vray for maya I need the licence server to be on and running, I've tried to logoff/reboot and start manually (restart) the server but it constantly fails.

Any ideas what the problem with my case?

Tried many times to make it start but noticed that every attempt I do in order to start the server it reads:

Starting V-Ray license service.../etc/init.d/vrlsvcctl: line 21:2867

..and it keeps increasing along with the same reported error after the line 21xxx as in the first post,seems to be like time increasing, since If you make a break and then try again it jumps in more increments than before.
Hope it helps but all what I've attempted so far do not seem to work.

Have you tried starting the license server directly (i.e. not as a demon)?

Just following the installation instructions in the manual, did reboot to see the registered daemon while loading the OS, but it mentions that vrlservice is Disabled (green color)
and in terminal I'm stuck to the point where I need to run the server before the installation.Not quite sure regarding daemon service how to run it this way.. :/

Just run the vrlservice.exe (where is says how to run the license server manually). Also, which version of Fedora - 32 or 64-bit? Did you install the dongle drivers successfully?

Fedora 13 x64, WkRt installed fine and removed plenty of times (did the whole process from the scratch)

Well, in order to help you out and save your time as much as possible I include a detailed boot report since the first problems seems to start here.
Have a look because I think that there is something else that may not be correct.

I did move nvidia.ko on purpose, in order to print out a detailed boot log and send it to you here,I will revert back to normal asap.

Good afternoon gentlemen,

regarding the solution that vlado posted a little while ago to the fellow thread

So to work around this issue please follow these steps:

1) Uninstall the 64-bit version of the V-Ray license server;
2) Install the 32-bit version of the zlib library using the command Code:
yum install zlib.i686
3) Install the 32-bit version of the V-Ray license server.

Apologies for the inconvenience; we are working to resolve the issue with the 64-bit version of the server.

The bug hunt continues... If you find a bug - report it.

First of all, V-Ray works now, even if there are many problems that occur, but it renders fine!

my report to the workaround goes like that :

1.Assumed that vlado meant the x86 vrlservice version which is included in the maya2008_x86_linux zip

2.Need to remove all installed components (vray core,wkrt,vrlservice) from and follow the procedure from the manual,
apart from installing the vrlservice x64 (didn't work by just replacing the x64, with the x86,not sure why).
I had had zlib.i686 already installed, if you don't, install it.
3.Once vrlservice is installed, tried to run the service and ran properly (only once) for the first time using

/usr/ChaosGroup/VRLService/linux_x86/bin/vrlservice.exe
4.Lastly install vray_adv normally, may need to logoff to distribute env paths properly and let vray core to load

5.After all the above done, did reboot the computer to see that everything works properly without the need of my interaction
and I could render effective immediately.

By running the deamonic () service it gives the same error as in the first post

/etc/init.d/vrlsvcctl restart

Even now, the V-Ray works fine without any licencing errors

That's all, once again I would like to thank Vlado and all the V-Ray for Maya developers for the workaround and would like to
give them back feedback by posting my solution to the problem in Fedora 13 x64.

back here again...once again the problem persists and it seems that if you make it work once, then leave it as it is and DON'T touch it...

I did remove the dongle from the USB port and after that nothing did work as before. Tried everything from the scratch (installation upon removal of everything multiple times with various combinations), even tried to make it work with 32bit dongle drivers but there is no solution whatsoever and never seen again this lovely message

Any idea guys what might need to do in order to make the procedure I did describe in my previous post to work again, even corrupted?

Don't know what else to do, I'm try to beat it out the last 3 hours and nothing seems to work, whilst being in the middle of production :/

This message "vrlservice: Can't open listening socket on port 30304, retrying in 5 seconds... " typically means that there was a license server running before, but it closed for some reason. Linux keeps the port open for a while, so if you immediately start the license server again, you will get this error. If you wait a while, and then run the license server, it should be fine. It might be also a good idea to check if there is another copy already running using the "ps" command.

what I was thinking is that even if I do uninstall everything, some files that were modified manually by me (as it is mentioned in the manual) may stay and cause the conflict that I encounter constantly (licence files or whatever).Tried to use another USB port,but the problem persists.When I remove the dongle and try manually to start the server, it pops up a message requesting for the dongle and upon insertion and pressing retry button, it crashes once again.

As mentioned above, the first time I did install the x86 vrlserver, it ran OK for just once and then every time (after reboot/log off) I had the same errors even if I had had before the x86 version instead of the x64 one,but it was rendering fine,without any action by me it could render flawlessly,until to the point I removed the dongle and then never worked again.

That's odd, as I don't get that problem here (I have not tried Fedora 13 yet though, still using version 12). Normally when I plug the dongle in, I have to wait some seconds until Linux realizes there is a new USB device plugged in, and then I can run the license server normally.

The only thing I can think of is to stop the license server, unplug the dongle, uninstall the WIBU drivers, reboot, re-install the WIBU drivers, plug the dongle and then run the license server.
