  • VRay for furry characters?

Hi, I'm curious about vray's new vrayfur shader and how it works with Maya. I have an upcoming project that will require several furry characters and I was wondering if vray fur would be up to the task.

Basically, in my perfect world, i want to be able to paint my fur attributes like length, baldness and direction like with Maya fur, but not have to deal with any of maya fur's suckiness, like the horrible impossible-to-eliminate UV seams.

I see there is support for Maya hair, but maya hair doesnt seem to allow you to use it for full-body fur. Is there a way to use the control guides of maya fur to control the parameters of a vray fur shader?

Can anyone describe a possible workflow for using vray fur in a character pipeline?

    Thanks!

I re-read what I wrote and what I meant to ask was if you could use the guides from maya HAIR (not fur) to control vray fur attributes. If it used maya hair guides then vray fur could not only receive information about length/direction/baldness/color, but it could also animate with dynamics.

    I can dream, can't I?
