  • Would Shock Diamonds be possible in Phoenix?

    I was asked if it would be possible to create a shock diamond effect in Phoenix. Just curious if anyone knows how you would go about simulating something like that.

    um, I wouldn't try it in Phoenix or Fume.... probably a lot easier to use a particle system and render geometry, and then layer the blue jet exhaust over the top of it...

      most probably no, this effect is caused by the propagation of the acoustic waves in the jet, the simulations does not include the acoustic part. well, there is something similar to acoustic waves in phoenix, it is related to the conservation parameter, you can try with small values, let say 2-4 and a jet with speed about 200

        I have a setup for that thing published (along with few other peoples' setups too) over in CGTalk, you could look there. Mine was a PFlow setup, looked pretty decent.
