  • Am I doing somehting wrong? Pheonix seems VERY slow...

    The nuke sim, the rocket sim, the pool sim are excruciatingly slow. I'm on a dual quad cone, XPpro 64, 12 gigs of ram.

    The simple flame, bicolor are ok speed wise. But the ones mentioned above are almost unusable. The rocket takes forever to get anywhere and the nuke takes forever to render.

    Hopefully I'm doing something wrong.

    By "something wrong" I mean something in addition to by poor typing...

      they are really slow, the rocket needs about 30 min to sim on 4 core machine. actually the sims for the real projects are even bigger and slower.

        I am mainly interested in the software for fire, smoke (scale = buildings on fire) war type scenes and low rolling heavy smoke/fog.

        Will sims like that be fairly quick or will they be slow also?

          the fire is the easiest possible simulation, but the smoke is much more complicated. this is because the smoke needs external illumination to look good, and for epic smokes you need additional details that is the hardest part.

              For me the rocket scene is fast but the nuke scene is almost impossibly slow. There's a huge discrepancy between them and I have no idea which settings are responsible for it.

                the nuke scene is slow because it uses particle texture.
