  • VrayProxy + Vray fur, impossible question ?

    Hi,
We have a production with a lot of "rats" for a film.
    The rat have fur.
We use Vray proxy for the geometry but for the vrayfur ?

I don't know what is the "way" when we have proxy and fur.

We can't apply the vrayfur on a proxy.
We can't "bake" the vrayfur with the proxy.

    So ?

It is hard to develop something to attach vrayfur on a vrayproxy ?
    Or create a "vrayFurProxy" ?
    What is the solution ?

    Thank.

Perhaps you can use a simplified version of the rats as source for the fur?

    Best regards,

We thought to this solution but is not a good solution because the simplified version of the rat, to match with his proxy, must have the same animation that his proxy. And if the simplified version of the rat must have the same animation and must not be a VrayProxy (to attach a VrayFur), we must to keep the setup rig on the simplified version with all key animations.
Imagine now the final scene with 100 setup-rig in the same scene ?
It will be a heavy scene...
We use VrayProxy to have a "clean" scene. The lighting scene will just have animated proxy, no rig, no keyframe. And we can update the animation quickly (just change the animated proxy in the proxy node).
The problem is the fur (attach the fur or bake the fur or something).

Ok, i think the best solution is to convert all Fur into poly

At the moment, not really. We can probably write something, but it will take time.

Well in that case you can just bake it into the proxies too.

                Yes, it is the idea.
Convert Fur to poly and put it into the vrayproxy with the rat.
But it is the hell to "attach" the "poly Fur" on the rig with folliclse.
But it is the "best" solution at the moment :/ .

                    Hi Vlado,
                    Some news ?
Is it for Vray for Maya 2 ?

Fur + proxy is always a problem.
