  • Nvidia Quadro 4000 vs Nvidia GTX 480

I am planning to buy a Dual Xeon setup workstation with a high-end graphic card. I am trying to figure out which card will be a better choice for 3ds max + vray & vray-rt gpu. Nvidia Quadro 4000 os Nvidia GTX 480 will perform better in 3ds max 2010&2011 viewport and which one will perform better for vray production render and Vray-Rt gpu rendering?

How big are your files? If complex and high viewport performance then the Quadro 4000 is the best way to go.

Both cards will perform about the same with VRayRT GPU (which is the only part of VRay that will actually use the GPU) since they have the same GPU core, yet the Quadro gets the edge since it has more memory and will allow you to have slightly larger scenes.

Frst of all, thank you for your answer Donald2B. I am usally working on files around 1M polgons but, some files are as big as 4M polygons which are really decreasing fps in viewports. I have done some search with the viewport performance of quadros and gtx400s and I noticed that there are mojor performance issues with gtx 400s since they do not have proper drives for 3ds max. Quadros are even opening the performance gap as the polygons go higher.

For Vray RT GPU Rendering both GTX 480 and Quadro 4000 cars have fermi based GPUs but, only noticable difference is Quadro 4000 has 256 CUDA cores while GTX 480 has 480 of them. As far as I know CUDA cores are the main components of GPU that does the computing. So, CUDA cores would create any performance difference?

      Sincerely,
      ilter
