  • disabling local rendering in DR or reducing number of cores?

Does anybody know of anyway to have my rendering happen only on slave machines and not local when using distributed rendering? If not, is there a way to at least disable the number of cores VRay uses on the local machine so that I have some more resources available to use while rendering?

    thanks,

you can set the affinity of processing cores for any windows application.. i dont know about osx or linux. if youre using windows, just select the vray process (in maya vray is a seperate application? i think thats the case but never havign used it i might be wrong.. if i am then select the maya process) and right click. choose "affinity" and untick the cores you want left free for other tasks.

    there you go.

regarding disabling dr on the host machine.. someone else might be able to help. i remeber it was possible in the very early days of dr in vray for max, as you used to have to run the vray spawner on the host machine as well, otherwise it wouldnt use it for rendering.

There is also a setting for the number of threads to be used by the local Maya instance in the System section of the V-Ray settings.

thanks!!! Will lowering the number of threads in the V-Ray settings affect the number of threads used on the slave machines?

No, it affects only the local machine. If you want a different number of threads on the render salves, you will need to explicitly specify the -numthreads option for the standalone when running the V-Ray render server on the slaves.
