  • Vray vs. Brazil vz. Maxwell

    Hi Everyone,

I currently do not have the VRAY beta, nor have I ever used the engine. I am responsible for render engine implimentation for our design department here and am considering trying out VRAY. My questions are:

    1) obviously the images from VRAY are outstanding. However, how does it's ease of use compare with Flamingo and Maxwell? Maxwell is the easiest to use engine that I've ever tried, but it is slow. very slow. really, really slow.

    2) does VRAY for Rhino work seamlessly inside of Rhino, like Flamingo?

    3) is there a full blown texture and material editor? maxwell only offers this in it's stand alone app, not inside of Rhinoll. I'm really missing this right now. It's hard to go back to Flamingo after seeing Maxwell images, but Maxwell is really limiting right now. Plus, did I mention that it was slow.

    4) once VRAY final is released, is there going to be any kind of trial version to download without cost?

    5) Brazil is in the works as a plugin for Rhino as well. Why would i purchase VRAY over Brazil? I have some ideas on my own, but I've never used Brazil either, so i'd like to hear some opinions.

Thanks everyone, have a great weekend.

    Hi,

    1) Vray for Rhino is medium easy to use, but I if you have some experience in rendering, you will be ready to get nice results within a day. You will find some very helpful tutorials at the vray help web page. And after some weeks of work, you will get more faster and better images.

    2) Yes, ASGvis does a great job. The plugin works for script rendering and animation too. The only thing I don't know is, can be decals used in the future.

    3) Texture control come from McNeels RCM tools. You can test it, if you download a Brazil demo now. The material editor is easy to understand with unlimited layers. You can export/import materials to your hard disk.

    5) Nobody know, when Brazil will be ready. Per Vray I can do my work now (OK, some features will come in the next days/weeks). The Brazil price is approx. twice of Vray for Rhino. Vray for Rhino is good for Design work and arch viz.

      one more question . . .

      Hi Micha,

Thanks for your response to my questions, they helped.

I've got one more question -- McNeel seems to be directly supporting the implementation of Brazil -- is this not the case with VRAY? I find no mention of VRAY on any download pages.

      Thanks again.

        Dear Hoop,

Just to be clear - McNeel is supporting V-Ray for Rhino and 3rd party renderers in general. Very well I might add.

How did you hear about V-Ray for Rhino?

        Best regards,

        Corey

          Hi Corey,

Thanks for the info, that's good to know!

I heard about VRAY a while back on cgarchitect.com. But I didn't know there was a plugin for Rhino until i saw it on the rhino forums.

We were using Flamingo until Maxwell beta came out. The boss man is happy with the qaulity, but we all hate the loooooooooong render times. Of course, we want both here, great image quality and short render times. But who doesn't!

I'm looking forward to trying out VRAY. Will there be a trial version once the program lauches?

          Thanks, have a great weekend.
