  • Emissive problem

Hi, I have been trying to render a mobile phone with illuminated keys. It seems like an easy task. However, when I try to add an emissive material to the key text it doesn't work. A flat colour works fine. However when I add an emissive layer only a few of the numbers 'light' up. I have also tried increasing the colour intensity but the same result occurs. Does anyone have an idea why this isn't working? Thanks, Gavin

maybe the other are not pointing in the good direction ( command Dir of this surface and flip (f) )

      Emissive problem

      Hi JP,

Yep, tried that. Doesn't make a difference. Tried rebuilding edges, cutting from large surface, rebuilding letter line. Nothing makes a difference.

Is there overlapping geometry of any kind?

I might try it in a darker environment. It is possible that the are lit, but you just can't see it because its kindof bright around the fone. You also may try making the keys with a very light translucency and putting a rectangle light behind the keys.

            Emissive problem

Hi guys, Thansk for the replies. The surfaces are not overlapping. ( I also tried setting the secondary ray bias.) I also tried a few renders just with the letter surfaces on a black background. They confirmed that the emissive parameter wasn't working. (See below.) I haven't tried trimming the keys and putting an emiter behind. Its just so much quicker to surface a letter, especially if the fonts change.

Showing the keys as emissive white. Notice how half of them just dissappear. (They are still there, but very dark.)

so is the same emissive material applied to all of the keys? If thats the case than I would have to think its a geometry issue since the material shouldn't work for some and not for others. If not - then try putting the same emissive material on all of them. Also - does the emissive material just consist of 1 emissive layer or are there others?
              Best regards,

The same emissive material is applied to all keys. (Except the green and red.) However your last comment solved it. I also had a difuse layer. When I deleted it the keys all worked. THANKS!

interesting. I'm not sure why that would have the adverse affect - but I'll remember that next time
