  • Material for a glass-slab

    Hi
Is there anyone how can enlighten me on how to create a material that looks like the edge of a glass-slab.
I am new to this but I can create a ordinary glass material but it is quite dead, I would like a somewhat blotched glassmaterial but I cant really get close to it.
    So plz anyone

I'm not sure I follow - but are you asking how to create a frosted glass? You would do that by adding a glossy refraction layer. I'm guessing thats what you mean by blotchy?

      Hi Joe B
No, not frosted, the glass most still be almost fully transparent. I am looking for the "wavy" and a bit "liquidish" structure of the side (edge) of a glass-slab. You can see it on ordinary window glass where the edge is not polished after cracking it, and I am trying to simulate a 10-15 mm thick glass-slab.
Hope that you understand what I am looking for, and that you could help me

For glass with greenish blueis sides you must set a light fog color at the refraction layer of the glass material. For a wavy look in close up view I suppose you must model it.

          Thankz for reply
With a wavy look I mean a "marbled" texture of the surface.
And I hoped it was possible with a bump map or something but it needs to be transparent since there is objects inside the glass-slab.
Is it possible to make a surface a bit "liquid" like with a rendering instead of a modelled surface?

You could try using a wavy texture as a map in the refraction slot, and then adjusting the refraction glossiness to create your desired effect. Maybe a value as slight as .95 if you want it to stay pretty clear or a little more if you want it kind of frosty. It might be helpful to post a reference photo of what your trying to create.

              Re: Material for a glass-slab

              Hi again
Sorry for the delay, problem understand image hosting ???
I will try the refraction tip, but this image show a little what I am after.

And it is vital that its still transparent because of the objects inside the glass slab, see second image
As you can see it is desired to have some structure in the surface of the glass slab (block)
