  • help with exterior (glass)

hi, i need some help with this.
in some places where there are glass fences (balconys), they seem to be not visible, is as it was nothing there. i don´t know why this could be, if someone could help please.
post some images to see diferences, where there are glass and where it doesn´t see.

im using IM+LC, glass mat is clear glass from vray, caustics are on.

PD. fences are simple surfaces, should i make them solids? may be need to be thicker??... help please....tnx!

Do you use Rhino 4 beta and set a reflection environment?

Glass: you don't need caustic, if you enable "affect shadow" (best for arch viz).

        Re: help with exterior (glass)

Why did you disabled the reflection env? Without reflection env your glass can not show reflections (like the window glass), but this is the most important effect for arch glass or?

The "affect shadow" help to bring light in the room without the usage of caustics.

But I have overseen, you mean the small fences at the balkony. Today I was working on a scene and have seen, that the fog color show no effect to the rendering. I have not tested it yet, but it could be a bug. Try to set a refraction color instead.
        EDIT: fog color works (beta2).

hola, micha, done what you said and the fences now are visible. i´ve set a dark refraction color instead the fog, then adjust transparency because on first render glass was totally black. i would like to see some reflection (city, buildings, etc), could you orient me on how to do that, what kind of img is better for that in this kind of scene?
, and tnx very much again.

I suppose so you use Rhino 4. I would use a physical sky. Set it for GI and background env. I think, if you try to get city reflection, you will get much trouble. You must find a texture. Also I suppose so, that from this view, not so much reflected buildings could be visible. But you could test it: place some quader in building size around your model. If you see reflected buildings, than you could replace the quader with copies of your model or some simple other tower blocks.

Also you can download some free blocks from here (downloads -> 3D models):

well, phisical sky and sun is not available yet as Renee said... im using a gradient blue spherical map as backgnd and gi, think is good and yellowish direct light as sun. about reflections will do same test later with the options you mention. dont want to make it long, cause i have to make interiors too...
