Re: difference vray max vs rhino
Unsupported Vray features in Rhino include:
-Vray Fur
-Vray Displacement Mod (we have displacement, but not the modifier that max uses)
-Volume light (actually supported by Max, and since Rhino doesn't have it we can't use it)
-Various Light capabilities (using IES lights/photometric (although this just got released to us), using maps for lights (you can use emissive geometry, but won't get sampled the same)
-Different V-ray specific Material capabilities (Vray Dirt (its an AO shader), Vray FastSSS, Vray blend (Uses two materials as opposed to two colors, but we also have added capabilites with our layer system so this half there)
-Different Max native material capabilites (different falloff maps (we only have fresnel) and a number of other procedurals and map types)
-Motion Blur (we have it, but need to sort out how it reads the animation)
-Render farm management (vfmax uses backburner, which is native to max. We have distributed rendering, but that isn't really sufficient for animations.)
After that there are a afew little things here and there that are missing or done slightly different. At this point unless your using Vray for doing heavy duty production work (long animations, comping) I don't think you'd find that much of a difference between the two. Hope that answers your question.Damien Alomar<br />Generally Cool Dude
