  • Very New - Some problems already...

He Guys, I am just trying the Vray plugin for SU for the first time and I cant even seem to get things to start rolling right off the bat.

I am following the basic tutorial off this site and I can't get the GI to work, I am using the demo version, is this the problem? I am experienced with other renderers, so I know what the GI should look like and it's just not happening. I've opened and reloaded and the only thing I can think of is that the Demo version may have the GI disabled. help?

By default we have default options set up with the v-ray sun and sky. If you want just GI then you will have to disable the sun/sky related stuff. This isn't very hard at all and can be taken care of in 3 steps. Disable Default Lights; this is in Global Switches and essentially turns off the Sun. Remove GI/Background maps; you'll still need to remove the sky components, so just go to the environment rollout, click the little M next to GI and Background, and change the type to None. Disable the Physical Camera; in the Camera rollout disable the physical camera.

Indirect Illumination, which allows for the calculation of GI, is already on, so once those 3 things are done you will be able to set things in much the way you probably were expecting to.

thanks man, i just got it too... i opened one of the other tutorial files and compared the options and noticed that was the difference. Thanks for the quick responce though, hopefully most of my problems will be that easy once i actually get into the nitty-gritty.
