  • Material Previewing (within SU interface)

I have searched the forum to no avail, as well as some tutorials. If the question was asked a million times before - I do apologize. Just take note that I did try to find the answer before posting here.

Obviously I am a new user. I have a two part question:

    1) How may I view the material in perspective mode of SU after I assign a vray material? I apply a material and nothing shows, however once rendered the material is shown.

    2) If you cannot view the materials applied by vray, how may one know what materials are assigned within SU? If there an info bar or something so I can recognize what's there (such as the material's ID tag) w/o having to render an image?

The only thing Sketchup can show in the viewport is Sketchup materials. At this time we do not make Sketchup materials to represent V-Ray materials in the scene. We may implement this in the future to give as good of a preview as possible with the basic SU material.

You can right-click on the object/face and in the VRayForSketchUp part of the menu that pops up you can choose Edit Material. That will open the material editor and select the material that is applied to that object. You could also choose Apply Material from that menu and it will show you what material is currently applied to the object. Or if you have the material editor open you can right-click on materials and have it select objects in the viewport that use that material.
