  • Bump Images

Hey, I'm relatively new to this program and im having a hard time finding and/or making bitmaps for bump mapping.

Is there anyone that could help point me in the right direction?

Maybe links to already made bitmaps for bump mapping or even how to make them?

    Thx!

Bumps must be in grayscale, so thats the main thing. You'll really want them to match up with you're diffuse texture very well. Essentially, a quick workflow is to convert you're texture to grayscale (a copy of course) and then adjust the levels real quick. You can adjust a whole lot from there.

      Re: Bump Images

Ok thanks now i know more about them and how to work with em!

But where do i find these files? ive searched my whole computer but all i can find is .skm files of them. Do you use them and makes greyscales of them?

on top of that, ive been trying out displacemnt, and ive been reading the tutorials and following them step for step, but when i render there is no displacement whatsoever. i then try bump again and bump itself it works, but i would like displacement to work cause it gives a better effect. what am i doing wrong? ive tried reading up on it here on the forums but i cant find anything helpful...

      thanks alot!

        Re: Bump Images

At this point, displacement is to unpredictable to be really used effectively. There are times when it works, but then will disappear and won't comeback. It has to do with accessing the geometry from sketchup, so its not anything that you're doing.

As far as the textures, I believe that from the SU material editor you can export those textures out as pngs or jpgs or something.

I know this is double posting, but just for reference if someone finds this thread later

How to export images from an existing SU material:
            1. Grab your material in the SU editor and add it to your model (you must add it to your model or else you won't be able to edit it)
            2. Once you've added your material go to the In Model section
            3. Right click on your material and there should be the option to export the texture
