  • Transparent Background images (aka .png's or masked jpegs) using Vray

    Hi All,
    please help.

Using rhino with Vray, but am having difficulty using an image so that the text is visible and the backgorund can be masked (as with flamingo and decals), or with a png (most other programs).

I am designing a exhibtion stand, where i want the company graphics on a solid wall, as though the text was lettering stuck directly on the surface (with no background to the image - only the text)

I have tried several things but I cant stumble across the right combinbation. Have looked through the vray for rhino manual but it does not seem to mention such a task....

    thanks

It sounds like what you need are decals. There is a page or two on decals in the VfR manual and there is also Micha's decal tutorial here:

Thanks dalomar, for the help, however being a newbie Im a little confused by the sudden leap from the properties mapping box to the vray materials browser/editor.

Is there asimpler ,more basic, and dare I say it a more more logical/linear step by step for dummies explanatio?
      cheers

        Hi again,

OK. Have managed to create a box on which to place my created decal, using the same image of some text, for the diffuse colour, and Transparency map...

However, there is still a small white border remaining around the text that is more apparent, being that my box is bright red..

How is it possible to remove this white artifact around the text?

        thanks

Well chances are that you will need to adjust your transparency map just slightly. Maybe blurring the edge of the map will help smooth this out. If you know what your material color will be then you can also fill your diffuse map out with that color, just in case there is a little edge left.
