  • Wood floor again:)

    hello

simple question that I can not find an answer in the forum...

if my floor is 10 meters long By 5 meters wide.. what size should my wood texture be?
I have textures ranging from 250x250 up to 2000x2000 (pixels)..

So I can repeat in U and if necessary in v but what is the relationship between meters and pix..?

    thanks

    Re: Wood floor again

That depends on a number of things. A general rule of thumb is that you should try to have you're textures be as big and detailed as possible, but that depends on if your computer could handle it and if you even have access to those size textures. Also, if you can get a texture that repeats really well, and the repetition is not very noticeable, they you could very well have a good texture at 512x512.

There is no explicit relationship between meters and pixels in terms of mapping. Whenever you're mapping something its important to have the texture match the scale of the object. So if I have a texture of a wood floor and I need the width of each board to be 10cm wide, thats the most important factor because that width could be described by 20 px or 200px, not to mention that the texture itself could have 10 boards or 100. So in that sense its going to be very hard to say that every mapping should have x number of pixels per meter.
