  • sun system

When i use the sun system without any additional lights my shadows are very dark and with very sharp edges. I would like to have soft shadows and a way to control the ambient light of the sun.
Using fysical sky helps but makes my scene too blue even with ozon and turbity at their best regarding the making of a warm late summer afternoon atmosphere.

    Any ideas?

Where exactly and what time are you setting for the sun. Usually, i've found that having things at exactly midday doesn't produce as interesting effects as you'd like. I'd try setting a little bit more of an "interesting" time of day (mostly anything else other than noon in the summer) as that usually decreases the amount of blue as well as the depth/darkness of the shadows. You can make the shadows softer by increasing the size multiplier. Around 15-20 works good for me, but do a few experiments to get it right.

A few tricks that may help you manage the sun:
    1. Use the white balance on the physical camera. This can take out a lot of the blue by just setting a slightly blue color for the white balance.

    2. try working with shadow bias. that will allow you to set a lower sun angle (and thus less blue), yet maintain the right shadows.

    3. Try setting up the Sun and then another direct light for the sky. This will allow you to control the blueness of the sky via another light and its position. (I haven't explicitly tried this one, but I've seen it work fairly well)

      Re: sun system

      Thanks,

my sun settings were late afternoon. The sunsize made the shadows much better en adjusting the whitebalance also helped a lot.

      THANK YOU!

white balance is the key thing that makes the sun/sky/physcam thing work...but thats my opinion. Now that I think about it, I probably should have put together a better example for the manual oh well...
