  • how to map textures on surfaces that r not flat.

Hi.. i've been trying to figure out how to map textures on surfaces that bend and fold (cloth for eg.) . plz look at the attached jpegs.

Plz follow the link for bigger picture

If you watch carefully, just above that yellow line in the image, the texture does not show up properly.. making the texture 'projected' wont work for obvious reasons..

    Everything modeled in SketchUp

i'd appreciate any help that i can get.. thanks.

    Vikram.

Look in materials editor Bump and Displacment map . Use this options and you will get great results.

thanks Stefanq, for the link to that 'towel' render.. that looks inspiring! I make all my modeling in Sketchup.. but i'm not exactly sure if you made that towel in Sketchup.. can you plz send me the skp file of that 'Towel' model and show how you applied texture on the towel? its' simply superb.

Hi Vikram, sorry because I wasn't prompt, kind of busy right now, my towel it's an 3ds model, with was not so easy to explode, and to select every piece after( it's more easy to assign already the texture you want on it, and after explosion, just select everything by material), and for mapping the texture on it, I was follow migz tutorial, it's very well done by the way, and that was all.
It can be helpful for you to place the texture by hand, via select a face, right click, texture, position.I think that because since you model only in sketchup, your model have more then one face, so the texture it's mapped randomly, if I can say so.And you are right, the projected method it's not working in that case, a just made a test. I'll post some photos to show you how I manage to correct the texture mapping like I said, via texture-position.
Hope that will help you, GOOD LUCK!
          Stefan
