  • Vray Materials

    Hi all,
I'm quite new to Vray however I have been very impressed with what I've seen so far.
I have downloaded materials from asgvis, and when I extract them I get the .vismat file, along with some png/jpeg files. are these image files important when I import the .vismat file? (some of the images are grey-scale, colour, and some also include the texture ball preview image).
Any help would be much appreciated,
    Thanks.

    Re: Vray Materials

    Hi Philthy

Those images will probablyy be used for some texturing and the grey-scale ones will be for bump or displacement.

In case vray loses any of the images you have to pess the M and select the image again.

    Hope i helped

    Bye

      Re: Vray Materials

The preview is just that...the preview and is there so you know what the material is supposed to look like.

The rest of the images are maps of some sort, which are used to recreate the material. The color one is for the diffuse layer and may possibly be the only color one that you'll see. The other (grayscale) maps could be for a variety of purposes and you're guidance on that will usually be by some sort of suffix at the end of the file name. Here's some of the ones you'll typically see. (below is my own naming convention, but most of the time things don't differ too much)

      Alpha naming conventions
      filename_a
      filename_alpha
      filename_trans
      filename_clip

      Bump naming conventions
      filename_bump
filename_bmp (don't confuse this with the bitmap (.bmp) file format)

      Reflection naming conventions
      filename_ref
      filename_specular
      filename_spec
      filename_s

      Displacement naming conventions
      filename_disp

These are just typical and not set in stone.

        Re: Vray Materials

        Thanks for the help guys.

Unfortunately I had to reformat my pc, and it says my serial has been maxed out... at the point where I need to submit my serial license.

Hopefully I can get this sorted soon as i've msged support for a solution.
I have also emailed 'authorizations@asgvis.com' , but is that a proper email as I didn't get some sort of feedback as to whether my email has been recieved.

        Cheers.
