Re: VRay For SketchUp v1.00 vs. 01.00.73

    OK, I'll start off.
First the latest version is now 01.00.74. (August 26)
My experience is positive. The sun reset bug seems to have been fixed. Materials are created automatically in vray, which saves a lot of time although they are just basic materials, so then you just 'import' the equivalent, where necessary, from your own library (e.g chrome etc).
It does crash from time to time and the subdivide and smooth plugin doesn't work properly, but for me it is not a big issue and I can work round it.
I am used to it now and I'm forgatting about the version 1 bugs.
So overall, a big improvement and worth taking the step forward.

Re: VRay For SketchUp v1.00 vs. 01.00.73

I've been haunted by constant Incorrect Parameter error, but earlier this week I managed to reliably reproduce it and send the info to developers which also managed to reproduce it. As it turns out, if the SU Material Editor's colour picker is set to anything but the colour wheel it'll create that error. With the current version it'll work fine as long as you use the Colour Wheel.

I can wait for that to be fixed so I can migrate to SR1. As mentioned earlier, the Sun is now synced with SU, groups and component all render, no more disappearing geometry.

With the original release I could not use HDRI and also get the Sun's shadows. With SR1 I can.

And you can place V-Ray lights in components.

In short; I really like SR1, so many improvements and fixes, but I'm waiting for the Incorrect Parameter is fixed before I upgrade V-Ray at the office.

does any one know if 01.00.74 has that colour wheel thing fixed... i only use HLS, never touch the colour wheel...

on another note, has anyone noticed how wonky sketchup is, if u open the material editor in HLS and u click on the letters its actually clicking on the colour wheel... its like it just hidden or transparent but its still there and editable

Re: VRay For SketchUp v1.00 vs. 01.00.73

            Problem exists in .74
I'm always using HSL as I find the colour wheel really awkward. I notice many people just use the default colour wheel which I think why you haven't heard that many reports about this issue on the forum.

I haven't noticed that thing with clicking the letters. But I have noticed that when I type in a nice round number in the HSL more, for instance 70, SU will round change it to 69 next time I look at the material. Seems like some integer rounding going on.

And it bugs me that the Material Editor pops up every freakin' time I use the paintbucket tool.

I just tried HLS (not something I normally use) and it seems ok - no crashing.
I think the material editor popping up is a sketchup thing.
I downloaded these RAL colours which someone on the sketchup forum linked to. It is useful addition.

What did you do after you tried the HLS? Did you open the V-Ray Material Editor?

I created a new material in SU, using the HLS colour system and applied it to the model and rendered it - no problem. I have just repeated it and then went into Vray Material editor - there was the new 'material1' and I've added a reflection layer to it (for testing) and it has rendered ok.

Re: VRay For SketchUp v1.00 vs. 01.00.73

Well as ThomThom said, we did get the bug and where able to reproduce it. At the moment, I think it also has something to do with the actual color being set. At the moment we are possibly inputting the value as R,G,B which has each value between 0 and 255. Some of the other formats have different ranges of values (HueSatBrightness being h->0-360 s->0-100 b->0-100). So if you were setting a color that was consistent with the ranges of the different format, then it might be possible not to trip the error. I think the SU's RGB version may require a single number to describe the color rather than an array of 3 numbers, so it may always trip the error, but I haven't tested this.

We still don't know how exactly we can get around this, but reproducing it is a pivotal in getting it fixed. Once we get things sorted out, then we'll let everyone know and get another build out there.

As far as the actual topic at hand, the new version is really a significant improvement. David mentioned the majority of them, but one of the "behind the scenes" improvements is that things are much more accurate in terms of the scale and intensity of the lighting. I believe Joe said that things were just not put together in the right way withing the first version to be able to accurately produce the correct lighting levels. Now that that is cleared up, lights and their intensities should be much closer to the models they are supposed to represent.

But I found 00.70 much faster than 00.74, when light cache is in used.

00.74 takes long time to prefilter and merge LC. Anyone also compare?

Yes, I noticed that too. 00.74 definately is noticably slower.

I like .74 quite a bit, I agree it is slow, much slower in fact, but much better work flow. However the slight problem with not being able to use subdivide and smooth with the vray serialization has made me down grade to before the auto linking/updating materials.

Looks like most people would want a mix of the two versions.
