  • White dots when using glass

    My glass material is producing white dots when light goes through it. Is there any way of getting rid of them? My options are as follows...

    Indirect Illumnination -
    Primary Engine: Irradiance Map
    Min Rate = -3
    HSph. Subdivs = 50
    Max Rate = 0
    Samples = 20

    Secondary Engine: Light Cache
    Subdivs = 1000
    Sample Size = 0.02

    First image without glass
    Second Image with glass

    Please someone help! The dots are killing me. Thanks.

    I think that might be to do with your material settings. Did you use the glass from the material that comes with Vfr? Have you two sheets of glass or one per panel? Have you got double sided 'checked or 'unchecked' for the glass material?

      I would try the "affect shadow" option of the glass material.

      Also you could try my special arch glass from the ASGvis material tutorial (used a plastic material -> diffuse color black -> transparency set at needed glass color). It's a faked glass material, that should be calculated fastest.

        Those look related to caustics some how some way. I doubt that you've changed any of the settings that would affect the way caustics (or GI caustics which these most likely are) would actually be calculated, so its a little bit of a mystery at the moment.

        Anyway, Micha's Affect Shadow suggestion is probably the best course of action at the moment.
